Frequently Asked Questions
Providing Kickstarters are aged 24 on the start date of the placement, they are eligible.
We haven’t seen any specific information regarding this yet, however, we do know that employers will have the ability to request certain education levels (for example, C / 4 at Maths and English). It’s important that employer keep the purpose of the placement in mind at all times, which is ultimately to give young people with very little or potentially no work background the ability to gain experience.
The Kickstart scheme ends for application on 31st December 2021. However, as placements are 6 months maximum employers will be able to set start dates as they wish before the end of the programme on 31st Dec 2021.

Payment Question
The wage grants will be paid to employers retrospectively at 2, 4 and 6 months of placement. Employers will need to cover wage costs until they receive the grants and will have to have to provide evidence that demonstrates the Kickstarter in the placement and on your payroll.
Technical Requirements
As the Kickstart scheme aims to bring in young people with little or potentially no work background, the responsibilities of the role need to be achievable or achievable with training. It’s important that employers consider this when scoping the role.
As a partner gateway organisation, Simply Inspired Training are supporting all UK organisations who wish to apply. The Kickstart scheme is available in England, Scotland, and Wales.
There has not been any specific advice given on this subject. However, practically speaking, you should treat your Kickstarter as you would any other employee. Part of that means helping them get up to speed and working effectively through support and training.
There are no expectations for you to retain the Kickstarter on a permanent basis. In fact, once the 6-month period ends, employers have the option to bring in another young person for a further 6-month period.
Nothing specific has been said about this. However, we are sure an end-of-placement assessment would be beneficial for both the employer as to the success and learnings, and for the Kickstarter as they reflect on their experience and take their learnings forward into future employment.
